Fall/Winter Workshop Series 

Are you looking for continuing education opportunities that fit your schedule and budget? Have you been missing opportunities to interact with your audiology, SLP and SLPA colleagues due to COVID?

We hear you!

SDSLHA is pleased to announce our 2020 Fall/Winter Workshop Series. During the remaining months of 2020, SDSLHA will be offering a series of 1-2 hour online workshops via Zoom. We are still working on topics and scheduling to offer a minimum of 6 workshops on a variety of topics. Check this page frequently and watch SDSLHA social media and emails for updates to the workshop schedule. 

Cost
Live workshops are FREE for SDSLHA members and $15 each for non-members.

Continuing Education 
  • Live workshops will be registered for ASHA Continuing Education credit and a certificate of attendance will be issued.
  • Recorded workshops will be available when presenters agree to allow recording. These will be available to SDSLHA members to complete for a certificate of attendance. ASHA CE credit will not be submitted for viewing of recorded workshops. Attendees may choose to use submit self-recorded Certification Maintenance Hours (CMH). See below for details.
  • Using a Certificate of Attendance for ASHA Certification Renewal: Self-recorded CMHs are activities you complete and document, instead of being tracked by the ASHA CE Registry. You do not need to obtain prior approval from ASHA for the activities you choose. The activities will count toward your 3 year interval as long as they meet ASHA’s certification maintenance standard for professional development and acceptable activities. You are required to maintain your own documentation for all self-recorded CMHs. You will only need to submit documentation to ASHA if you are notified of being selected for an audit.

Managing Vocal Hygiene and Communicating with PPE: Designing an In-Service for Your Workplace

Date/Time: Tuesday, September 29, 2020, 5:00-6:00 PM MT/ 6:00 - 7:00 CT

Presenter(s): Shelly Grinde, Linda Tyler, Mandy Williams, Candace Zweifel

Description: Designing an In-Service for Your Workplace virtual workshop will provide education related to vocal use in the workplace while utilizing face masks, devices and strategies to decrease vocal fatigue including vocal hygiene information, and resources for implementation of an in-service for your workplace. The panel consisting of South Dakota experts including Dr. Mandy Williams from the University of South Dakota, Linda Tyler from Sanford Health, and Candace  Zweifel from Beresford School district and will be moderated by Shelly Grinde from the University of South Dakota. This workshop is designed for Speech-Language Pathologists and Speech-Language Pathology Assistants working in a variety of settings including school districts, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, etc to provide such an in-service to teachers, school personnel, facility staff, nurses, etc. A question and answer period at the end of the hour-long workshop will be offered to answer further questions.

Yoga & Mindfulness for the Virtual Work World

Date/Time: Monday, October 19, 2020, 5:00 – 6:00 PM MT/6:00 – 7:00 PM CT

Presenter: Tiffany Trask, M.A., CCC-SLP & RYT200

Description: Join Tiffany, Speech-Language Pathologist & certified 200 hr Yoga Teacher, as she guides you through mindfulness and self-care for our (virtual) work world. We’ll delve into basic mindfulness routines, mantras for SLPs and AuDs, tips to staying present when you feel overwhelmed, breath work and guided relaxation and end with a 30-minute chair yoga class full of stretches you can easily do throughout your work day.

Early Intervention: Success and Challenges in Home Visiting in the Era of COVD-19

DescriptionThis will be a round table discussion focusing on how early intervention home visiting practices have changed during the era of COVID-19. Participants will be able to share challenges and successes they have experienced with modifying service delivery including utilizing enhanced safety procedures and PPE as well as conducting virtual home visits.

SLP in the SNF Roundtable

Date/Time:  Monday December 7, 2020, 5:00 – 6:00 PM MT/6:00 – 7:00 PM CT  

Presenter: Shelly Grinde, MA, CCC-SLP

DescriptionJoin colleagues who specialize in working in the Skilled Nursing facility to discuss current trends and topics. This session will not be offered for CEUs or recorded. It is designed to provide the therapist with an opportunity to meet others working in the SNF environment with discussion centering on COVID, communication, caseload, case management, tips and tricks, etc. Further discussion about how SDSLHA can support future educational events will also be included. Moderated by Shelly Grinde, MA, CCC-SLP.
