This information will be in the upcoming newsletter.  Ruth Samuleson presented information in more detail at the round table.  Here are the Top 10 topics in random order:

  1. There is a new DVD from ASHA on Speech/Language milestones-it is inexpensive and available for purchase
  2. The annual convention this year will be held in Miami in November.  New ASHA members will get a $100 discount. J
  3. School’s Conference is coming up this summer in Arizona.
  4. The membership of ASHA in 1990 was 60,000 members and in 2005: 123,190 members.
  5. The new ASHA office building will be completed in the fall. It is close to new cost because the association sold the property they have been in for so long and the price received was so high, it allowed them to build for almost nothing.  In addition, there will be lease-able office space available to others for a time in the new office building.
  6. Media reports have recently focused on the impact of popular tech and hearing loss.
  7. Critical issues drive ASHA funding into programs via surveys to determine priorities focused initiatives, so if you get a survey, please respond.
  8. The shortages in speech pathologists at all levels is receiving increased attention-task forces and surveys are out there to help decide what to do…vacancies versus supply
  9. Salaries are not being up to par has generated a market review.
  10. There was a resolution to rescind the guidelines regarding training and supervising management of dysphasia.  The legislative council rescinded the continuing education part of this, which prohibited CEU’s.
  11. The legislative advocacy efforts included identifying that Sen. Johnson is signed on to several bills important to ASHA.  Ruth left information with Herseth and Thune’s staff members because they were not there due to spring break,
  12. There are no proposed dues increases for this year.
