  1. Review Minutes – Terri K.    The council members prior to the meeting reviewed the minutes.  Corrections to the minutes were identified and completed.  Anne/Penny approved minutes.

  1. Treasurer’s Report – Angela D.  sent a brief summary what has happened in the last 3 weeks.  Penny/Anne approve budget.

  1. Editor / Web Updates – Penny W.  Sam, our new web master will attend our business board meeting on Thursday’s Business meeting before the convention.   Penny suggested that we send an e-blast

to tell our members about our web site and to remind them of the convention coming up.  This idea was approved and Penny will make sure that this is carried out.  We decided to leave our newsletter to membership only.  We currently have 3 jobs openings on the web site.

After our convention Penny would like a copy of the convention reports as soon as humanely possible so she can put them in the newsletter. J

  1. Continuing Education Report – Shelly G.  Her report was sent out to the executive board members prior to the meeting.

  1. Membership Committee – Cristy S.  An update from MSP as of Friday we have 202 members.  (34 new members and 55 members have not renewed).

  1. SEAL’s Report – April P.  Linda and April will look over the ASHA grant for State Associations.  It is due April 7th, 2006.

  1. STARS/MICS Report – Julianne & Todd D. There were a couple of issues that were raised.  A proposed legislation in Ohio would provide

vouchers for parents of students receiving special education services.  These would give parents a choice of which public or non-public district they would elect to enroll their child.  In South Carolina,

during standardized test the schools pull SLP’s to give the statewide test, monitor hall, and /or various other jobs that do not include therapy.    Also to assist educators in their daily work with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), the National Education Association has produced a new resource in collaboration with the Autism Society of America, ASHA and the National Association of School Psychiatrists, entitled “The Puzzle of Autism”.

A free class is being offered from ASHA about reimbursement for speech/hearing services.   The board thought it might be a good

idea to have ASHA present this class at our convention next year.
